For parents, grandparents & teachers

Give their curiosity somewhere to go.

Bring the wonder of the ocean into a family afternoon, a classroom conversation, or your next Florida beach trip.

Made for ages 6–12

Read a little.
Try something.
Notice more.

Start with a chapter, a coloring page, or a question. Who says you have to work from front to back?

Read together with younger children. Let older kids explore the puzzles and activities at their own pace. Bring the observation log along when it’s time to head outside.

Teachers and parents may photocopy the puzzle and coloring pages for their own classroom or home — it’s printed right on the copyright page. Every puzzle has an answer key in the back.

Our approach

Honest science, zero doom.

Kids can handle the truth: some hatchlings don’t make it, and people are usually the reason. But the book leads with the fix, not the fear — nesting numbers are climbing because ordinary people learned a few simple habits. Nesting figures come from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s statewide surveys, and rescue contacts were verified before printing.

A note about the author

It began with what was left on the beach.

Dianna Lynn’s Find the Ocean grew from walks on Florida’s Gulf beaches and the small things that could make a hatchling’s journey harder: lights, holes, sandcastles, and chairs.

One summer, a condo’s lights sent a nest of hatchlings toward the road instead of the water. Emergency crews were called. The book started there.

She walked Florida’s beaches, Gulf and Atlantic, with a pocket full of pamphlets and the little blue film cards that test whether a light is turtle-safe — handing them out to anyone who’d take one. The kids always would. They were more open than their grown-ups, and they always had questions. This book is for them.

The book brings that concern into something children can hold, explore, and act on — with puzzles, coloring pages, and practical ways to care for the coastline.

A beach bag essential
